Government-imposed fresh bans on 43 more Chinese apps Including AliExpress, CamCard

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has imposed fresh bans on 43 more Chinese apps under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The new list comprises famous apps like AliExpress, CamCard, Taobao Live, and many more.

 In early September the Indian Government has banned 118 Chinese apps and games including the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile, WeChat Work, Baidu, Tencent, and many other apps taking the total count of Chinese apps banned in India to 224.

As per an official statement from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, “This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order,” the statement said.

The Ministry further added that it had issued the order for blocking access of these Chinese apps by users in the country based on “comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under Ministry of Home Affairs.”

Initially, in late June, the government has blocked access to 59 apps which include the most popular short video-sharing app TikTok, the famous file-sharing app Shareit, the most downloaded browser UC browser, and messaging and social media app WeChat among other. The latest ban of 43 apps takes the count to 267.
